SmartIdeas @ NetZeRoCities

The competition is open to teams led by a PhD student, who may submit a research proposal. The team may include the PhD supervisor and/or other collaborators.

Smart cities and their transition toward climate neutrality represent a major concern at national, European, and international levels. Citizen participation in this transformation process is both necessary and essential. The competition we are launching is organized within the NetZeRoCities Competence Center. Its purpose is to encourage young people to identify solutions for real problems in the cities we live in and to make these ideas visible through the NetZeRoCities Center, where they can be analyzed and further developed together with the appropriate authorized entities.

The mission of the NetZeRoCities Competence Center – the National Competence Center and solutions hub for the development of climate-neutral smart cities is to support Romanian cities in reaching climate neutrality targets. It acts as a network-type excellence instrument designed to increase the chances of successfully achieving the objectives set by the EU Mission on climate and emissions neutrality.

This edition of the competition focuses on key thematic areas such as governance, green energy, transport – infrastructure – urban mobility, construction – buildings, climate-neutral environment and sustainable recycling, and viable communities for the transition toward climate neutrality. The competition supports the values of the Competence Center: “Climate Neutrality, Climate Change, Carbon Emissions, Attitude and Civic Engagement,” “Safety, Smart City, Technology, Digitalization, Carbon Inventory,” “Carbon Footprint, Civic Engagement, Dignity and Future Generations,” “Responsibility, Transparency and Climate Integrity.”
