The National Scientific Autumn Conference organized by the Academia Oamenilor de Știință din România represents a major academic platform for presenting scientific research outcomes in Romania, bringing together experts from universities, national research institutes, and academic institutions. The event promotes interdisciplinary dialogue and strengthens both national and international visibility of Romanian research.
Within this framework, the paper entitled “Metrics and methodologies to handle the Net Zero transition process of Smart Cities” was presented and published in the official conference book of abstracts.
Strategic Impact and International Visibility
The research strengthens Romania’s positioning within the European climate transition and smart city research ecosystem by proposing a scalable and replicable framework for managing the Net Zero transformation of urban environments.
By integrating internationally recognized standards such as the GHG Protocol, European planning instruments (SECAP, SUMP), and the strategic directions promoted by NetZeroCities, the study delivers an operational governance model capable of translating climate neutrality objectives into measurable, data-driven urban policies.
The project’s strategic impact includes:
- establishing a coherent Net Zero performance measurement system at city level;
- enabling evidence-based decision-making for public authorities;
- supporting alignment with the European Green Deal and the EU Climate-Neutral Cities Mission;
- enhancing cross-sector collaboration among academia, public authorities, and industry;
- increasing the international visibility of Romanian expertise in smart city governance, digital transformation, and climate transition strategies.
Through its multidisciplinary and implementation-oriented approach, the research positions the participating institutions as relevant contributors to the European Net Zero transition architecture and to the broader international dialogue on sustainable urban transformation.
